About Us

Chez Moi Bakery is a specialty bakery based in beautiful Durham, NC and known for Brown Sugar Vanilla Rum Cake #AsSeenOnPBS in A Few Great Bakeries.

Chez Moi was founded November 2005 as a home-based bakery inspected by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and added a dessert food truck March 23, 2013. I left corporate America June 2015 to run the business full time which was one of the best decisions I've ever made!
 
As of January 1, 2021, I'm officially no longer operating as a food truck, but I'm still baking and producing products. I bake for two coffee shops - Cocoa Cinnamon (Geer St. & Hillsborough Rd. locations) along with a restaurant & coffee bar - Namu (check availability). See FAQs for details on where other products can be purchased. Nationwide shipping is available year around which is shipped by FedEx. Contactless, complimentary delivery ($25+) is available within Durham along with scheduled local pickup. These two options are available Tues-Fri each week (details for each are shown at checkout). Unknown fact, Chez Moi has shipped as far as Afghanistan which was a special request! I'm extremely thankful for our military, first responders and front line workers! Thank you for your service.

  
How It All Started
My love for the French language gave me the name for my passion in baking. Chez [shey] Moi [mwa] means "my place". I am a home food processor under the State of NC's Dept of Agriculture...hence the name. :) Back story about why I love French... I grew up with a dad who taught me a French word or phrase every time he returned from a trip to Canada. Then, I lived in France my junior year of high school as an exchange student.

It all started on a cruise to the Grand Cayman. A cruise I wasn't scheduled to take until the last minute because a family member was unable to go. There was a rum-tasting onboard the ship and an excursion which included a visit to a local rum cake bakery. After bringing back a few bottles of rum and having always baked for family and friends, I decided to try a rum cake. It ended up being something spectacular! My passion for baking started early in life with YES, MY EZ BAKE OVEN! It's true! I would bake my Dad miniature pineapple layer cakes. IMAGINE THAT! My Mother baked every chance she had...her specialties were apple pies, peach cobbler and yeast rolls. MMmm! It seemed as if you could taste the love like it was an actual ingredient. I always wanted to help... not realizing that even then... I was preparing for my future.
